I recently had the opportunity to visit the captivating Little Colorado River in Arizona, and it truly left me in awe of nature's wonders. Definitely in my top 10 favorite hotel rooms ever! This hotel was made/opened over a hundred years ago, and everything about it just kind of gave off the sense of grandeur of back then - when staying in a hotel was a Big Deal and not an everyday thing. Sure, the bathroom is small like other budget hotels (so it can't compare to a 4-star hotel there), but I've never had such a large room space or a balcony in a 4-star hotel (yes, I know that's possible tho). But this hotel has character! It's old (maybe that's why it's only 2 stars?) but all of the furniture was amazing, the room was very large, and the balcony was freaking great. My job puts me up in 4-star hotels when we have to travel for work, and sure, those hotels are nice, but they're all about the same, and the stars are mostly for the thick mattresses/bedcovers and sleek furniture and bathrooms (when we're talking about rooms, not amenities). I don't understand why this is a 2-star hotel. We walked 20 feet from our car saw a few tracks and we’re yelled at by a man in the “tourist guide group.” He made us uncomfortable and said “We shouldn’t be here because we didn’t give money.” It would be offensive to give her the $0.80 cents I had in the bottom of my bag. The same woman proceeded to ask us 3 more times if we had money for a small donation or tip. Once we said we didn’t have cash the lady who waved us down said “fine you can walk it yourself” which I already planned on doing. Not even a dollar, we didn’t take cash with us as we were only seeing family on the reservation. We were flagged down to park in a space near the track site and we’re asked for a ten minute guided tour for a donation. We stopped here to let our young kids see the cool tracks that I saw as a kid. I’ve passed though here many times and the few times we stopped to stretch our legs we were never harassed to leave a ‘small donation.’ I do not recommend visiting during tourist season. This place didn’t include free breakfast but the restaurant offered a great menu selection. We also had great hiking spots around us we were able to visit an Arch that was located 5 minutes away from our hotel. I mean who needs that when you’re in a place like this but just saying haha. Beware that this place doesn’t have the latest technology when it comes to the TVs but they offered great cable movies selections so we were able to watch some Marvel movies. At some point we needed more towels so we called room service and they sent someone right away. The house itself had almost everything! 2 TVs 2 queen beds, kitchen with fridge, microwave and coffeemaker. Wow what can I say? This place was so cool! I liked that we had our own little house with amazing views to the canyon! Literally behind us we had this amazing tall sandstone wall! We stayed here so we could visit monument valley which is 10 minutes away! The Goulding’s had a whole community that included a restaurant with tasty food! A grocery store, a Laundromat, gift store, pool and gas station, all located in the same area which made it so convenient for our trip because we needed to do some laundry after being on the road for a few days.
